My youngest move up in the ranks to 1st grade. Here’s what we have in store for him. Happily, all of this has been tested by older brother, so we have a pretty good chance of making this work.
Saxon 2 – We start Saxon 1 in Kindy, so it’s on to Saxon 2.
All About Reading (2/3) – We started level 2 last year, so we’ll finish that and move on to level 3 by the end of the year.
Shurley (1) – It’s dry; but it’s effective. Here we go again.
All About Spelling (1/2) – We’ll finish level 1 and move on to level 2.
Handwriting Without Tears (1) – So many reversals to correct this year.
History – We use a home-brew based on the Core Knowledge program. 1st grade is a really fun year.
World Geography – A quick home-made program teaching some of the largest/most discussed nations of the world.
Science – Core Knowledge homebrew again.
Health – A basic health program I whipped up.
Art – Core Knowledge based history, studies, and information. Art projects taken from all over the place.
Music – Music appreciation, history, and theory from Core Knowledge. I milk that program for all it’s worth.
Keyboarding Without Tears (1) – We will do keyboarding everyday until he gets good at it. Not something we can skip in this day and age.
So that’s the plan for this coming school year. I’m looking forward to knowing what I’m doing this time around.
