We have just finished the Student Writing Intensive level A, and it’s time to share our experiences! For the nuts and bolts review of the program click here.
Our year with the Student Writing Intensive (SWI) was a very positive one. We’ve tried a few other writing programs, and none of them matched the results we got this year under the instruction of SWI.
My youngest son was, according to recommendations, too young for SWI, but he did just fine with a little extra help. He finished the program able to compose three paragraph reports with all the techniques and requirements in the curriculum.
I have seen both of my sons’ writing improve so much over this school year. The structure of SWI has allowed them to diversify their writing without even realizing it. They’ve learned to write more interesting sentences, take and write from notes, and keep their writing more focused.
When we reached the last lesson of the year, I gave my boys the choice to do the final lesson (an optional lesson) or just wrap up with the last mandatory lesson. Much to my surprise, they both wanted to do another writing assignment. To me, this speaks volumes about the curriculum. My boys are enjoying writing! It doesn’t get any better than that.
